People are buying herbal medicines that could do them more harm than good, according to the National Institute of Medical Herbalists.
The Institute, which represents 550 qualified herbalists, says some people take no advice on the right treatment and others risk serious side-effects by mixing herbs with conventional drugs.
More than 80% of herbal medicines sold in Britain are unlicensed because the industry is unregulated. The Institute urged people to find out as much as possible before self-prescribing.
