Artero admits having multiple sclerosis

Thursday September 6, 12:49 PM
Dundee star Javier Artero has admitted today he has been diagnosed as having multiple sclerosis, the muscle-wasting disease.
In an open letter to Dundee fans, and all fans throughout the game, Artero said: "It's hard to write a letter like this - a letter to include everyone, saying all things I must say. I will try anyway.

"As you all know, I have been recovering in Spain for a month now and, to be honest, it feels like a year.

"I have been diagnosed with having multiple sclerosis. But the prognosis is very good and I am feeling much better, so hopefully I will be back in Dundee very soon.

"It has been 18 months since I arrived at Dundee Football Club and ever since I have felt like a big part of this family."

Artero went on to thank his partner Debora and all of his team-mates at the club individually and the club said they know how hard it was for the player on hearing the news and this open letter was a heartfelt and personal message to the fans.

Former Dundee star Brian Irvine has been playing with the same illness for Ross County for several years now, although it's not clear at what stage Artero's illness is at.
