Members of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity at Tarleton State University hope to light up the city of Stephenville this Christmas to help earn money for Multiple Sclerosis.
AGR will sponsor the first “Light it Up for M.S.” holiday decoration contest this season, and all proceeds will be donated to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
“We will have two separate competitions — one for residences and one for businesses,” said Event Coordinator and AGR Vice President Jeff Lewis. “The winners from each category will be announced at the chamber of commerce’s Christmas on the Plaza on Dec. 11 at 6 p.m.”
Competition is open to residences or businesses within Stephenville’s city limits.
“No apartments are allowed, but just about anyone else is welcome,” he said. “We have limited the contest to just 100 residential homes and 50 businesses, so people need to mail in their applications and entry fees as soon as they can.”
Entries will be accepted between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Stephenville Parks and Recreation Department, the Stephenville Empire-Tribune or the Tarleton Office of Student Activities in Room 201 of the Barry B. Thompson Student Center. The entry fee is $10 per residence and $20 per business.
The deadline is Dec. 1 to enter the contest so that judging can take place Dec. 2 through Dec. 10, between 6 and 10 p.m.
“We wanted to raise money for multiple sclerosis because one of our
fraternity brothers has the disease. We thought this would be an excellent
way to get the community involved in our efforts,” said Lewis.
