'Time to move on' as members back Holiday Home closure and investment in wider services
The decision by the board of trustees of the Multiple Sclerosis Society to close its holiday homes in Exmouth and Worthing was strongly endorsed by delegates attending the Society's annual general meeting. A resolution to reverse the decision was defeated by three to one.
Mike O'Donovan, chief executive, said, "The great majority of members of the Society recognise that this difficult decision was taken after the most rigorous review and exploration of any possible alternatives to closure. None was found."
"It is now time to move on. We have made it very clear that the money saved in operating the homes and subsidising guests will be redirected to extending services to benefit many more people affected by MS throughout the UK, including the South and South West. This has been warmly welcomed by our members."
"We have had a really enthusiastic response to the new respite care directory we have just published to help people find respite care and holidays across the country. We shall also continue to offer one-to-one help to any previous guest of either home who is looking for a suitable alternative."
