This morning, during a general assembly
at the National Multiple Sclerosis Society's 2001 National Leadership
Conference (Reach for Your Dreams, New Orleans, October 29-November 2),
the Society acknowledged those whose special contributions have greatly
aided its mission to end MS.
2001 General Achievement Award
Gene Fatur
Diagnosed with MS 8 years ago, Gene
has served as team captain or chair for MS Walks, and has secured TeamMS
sponsorship from his employer, Turner Construction. Gene is a valued and
long-time project manager, and is especially proud of a recent project?a
stadium at Denver Bronco's Invesco Field, Mile High.
Co-Employer of the Year Award
Turner Construction
Committed to ensuring that employees
with disabilities can give their personal best, Turner Construction (Colorado)
responds to staff needs in many ways. For instance, they designed an accessible
workspace for Gene Fature (at home and in the office), helped him obtain
insurance coverage so that he could afford appropriate treament, and have
sponsored fundraisers such as TeamMS events.
Ambassador of the Year Award
Donald Diamont
Famous for his performance in the
popular soap, The Young and the Restless, Diamont became involved with
the Society when his niece, Alyssa, was diagnosed with MS.
An active volunteer of the Southern California chapter, Diamont is launching
a nationwide fundraising event, "Restless Across America."

later on in the conference.
