Severely disabled people will benefit from increases in the Independent Living Funds which come into effect in April.
The Funds were created to help with the costs of personal and domiciliary care so severely disabled people could live at home rather than going into residential care. The maximum weekly payment from the Independent Living (1993) Fund increases from £375 to £395. The maximum under the Independent Living (Extension) Fund goes up from £625 to £665.
In other changes to the Funds, the capital limit will be raised to £18,500 and savings of up to £11,500 will be ignored. All earnings will be disregarded in ILF assessments, as will those of partners.
