Euro MPs have approved new safety controls on food supplements.
Manufacturers of supplements containing vitamins and minerals have three year to provide full details of their contents. About 300 over-the counter pills will come under scrutiny.
The European Commission has dismissed claims that this will mean a ban on some vitamins and force health food stores to close. It said that supplements containing natural ingredients and posing no health risk would not be affected. The new rules also demand detailed labelling on dosage.
