Putting NICE into Practice

The MS Society has produced the Measuring Success Toolkit to help services achieve the NICE MS Guidelines recommendations.

The toolkit helps health and social care professionals work through the NICE MS Guidelines, and implement the recommendations made. The toolkit has been welcomed by the Association of British Neurologists and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and is one component of the Society's strategy to support professionals, in particular those who are not specialists in MS, to work through a complex area.

Contents include:

Slides and speaker notes on CD-Rom
Copies of the NICE Clinical Guideline (professional and public version)
An at-a-glance summary of the Guideline
Guidance for commissioners, clinicians and managers, suggesting key questions to ask
A Physiotherapy Guidance Document
Measuring Success audit materials

Other initiatives to support professionals

The toolkit is just one aspect of the MS Society's push for better services.

In 2002, the Society published Developing MS healthcare standards in collaboration with the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and the MS Professional Network. Based on a comprehensive evidence base and grading process, this publication may be helpful to those in the early stages of reviewing their service.
