Physically and Cognitively Challenged Persons Can Learn to Water Ski At Annual Conneaut Lake Event July 16-19

Three Rivers Adaptive Sports Teams Up With UPMC Rehabilitation Hospital

PITTSBURGH, June 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Individuals with physical or cognitive challenges will take to the lake and learn to water ski with adaptive equipment at the 11th Annual Three Rivers Adaptive Sports (TRAS) Water Ski Clinic.  UPMC Rehabilitation Hospital in Squirrel Hill is a sponsor of the event, which will take place Mon., July 16, through Thurs., July 19, at Conneaut Lake Park Beach in Crawford County, near Meadville, Pa.

At the TRAS Water Ski Clinic, specially trained volunteers will teach more than 50 children and adults from throughout western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio how to water ski despite their physical challenges by using adaptive equipment.  Participants and observers will include those with physical and mental challenges due to stroke, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries, amputations and other traumatic injuries.

TRAS embraces the philosophy, "If I can do this, I can do anything." Members of the organization believe that through sports and recreation, individuals who are physically or cognitively challenged can gain the confidence, independence and sense of accomplishment that will help them in other areas of their lives.
