Stephen Young of Pepperell saw an ad in a local newspaper about a yard sale that would raise money for a cause.
He told his parents he wanted to do that, too. So he researched different charitable causes and selected multiple sclerosis.
Stephen said he agrees with his mom's philosophy: "When you think you are having a bad day, step outside your door and look around. You most likely are doing just fine."
Stephen and a crew of friends, family and neighbors posted signs around town and received donations from local businesses and help from many people.
"The yard sale was a big success," said Stephen's mom, Kathy, smiling and holding in tears of pride. "We raised $363.70!" That amount by matched by a corporate donor (see letter to the editor).
The overall sentiment is that this type of project can not be done alone, she said. So many contributed generously for the cause: the Polcari's, the Norum's, Kerry, friends, neighbors, businesses, and countless people.
"We just want to say thank you to everyone," said Kathy Young.
