Almost 40,000 successful appeals against disability living allowance decisions were made last year, according to government figures.
Statistics from the Department for Work and Pensions also reveal 18,000 successful appeals for incapacity benefit.
Lorna Reith of the Disability Alliance said the figures were far too
high. "What you need is a system which spends more time on gathering the
evidence properly in the first place. A large number of people are not
getting the money they are entitled to while they wait for their appeal
and some who accept the decision will never get the money they deserve."
