Remyelination in multiple sclerosis (MS) lesions has been described in several studies.
It depends on the presence of myelinating oligodendrocytes and a functional interaction between these myelinating cells and axons.
The imaging signal of remyelination in magnetic resonance imaging or spectroscopy is not yet defined.
The present review will focus on the morphological appearance of remyelinating MS lesions, their correlation with oligodendrocyte pathology, and possible markers for remyelination in imaging.
