You burn nearly as
many calories walking a brisk mile as jogging one. But the folks at the
National Multiple Sclerosis Society won't mind if you run their routes,
says Patricia McDonald, president of the Michigan chapter.
This spring there
are 14 MS walks across Michigan, from Midland to Marquette. They're as
short as 3 miles and as long as 12. In southeast Michigan, the big dates
are Saturday, May 5, in Warren and Sunday, May 6, in Ann Arbor, Birmingham,
Dearborn, Detroit and Grosse Pointe.
"We've shortened
up the walks for people who don't want to go 20 miles anymore," McDonald
says. "And we've got more walk sites, more food and more music," including
live bands, she says.
