NEW YORK, Jan. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- L'eggs Products, the leading mass hosiery manufacturer, announced the four honorees for its 2001 edition of "Women Who Shape Our World" at a presentation today at 320 Park Avenue in New York City. The annual event -- a huge success when it debuted last year -- celebrates exceptional women who have made a positive difference in our world, and continues the company's effort to inspire volunteerism.
The four honorees for 2001 are:
"I'm so proud to be part of 'L'eggs Honors Women Who Shape Our World'," said singer/actress Vanessa Williams, herself a supporter of many causes including women's and children's issues, and emcee of the luncheon. "These women have made enormous contributions and are simply outstanding in their achievements. The program is an excellent way to recognize how one person can make the world a better place."
Williams is actively involved with such organizations as Green Chimneys, a working farm in Westchester County that provides educational and residential programs to help troubled inner-city adolescents; The Open Door, which provides walk-in medical care for homeless families; The Cottage School for displaced young women; and the Special Olympics.
To date, L'eggs has committed more than $1 million to causes through the L'eggs Honors Women Who Shape Our World Program. Through this year's efforts, the company is committing more than $400,000 to the honorees' organizations, among others. The company hopes that spotlighting such remarkable women will inspire others to get involved on some level with a cause worthy to them.
"At L'eggs we believe that all women play a part in shaping the world, from those who run cause-related organizations to those who undertake the many fundamental, everyday acts of kindness," said Vicki Phelps-Chancellor, Vice President of Customer Marketing and Sales. "The program is in line with L'eggs philosophy that people who contribute of themselves feel good about themselves and, as a result, exude a wonderful, confident appearance."
The "L'eggs Honors Women Who Shape Our World" program is being supported with a retail effort that includes seasonal point-of-purchase displays featuring each honoree. This merchandising campaign will serve to visually bring each of their accomplishments to life, further encouraging volunteerism among women across the country. The year will kick-off with displays featuring Zoe Koplowitz, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, through April; Nancy Lublin of Dress for Success will be featured from May through July; materials featuring Wendy Kopp, Teach For America, will appear at retail July through September; and La-Verna Fountain, Save the Children, will be featured during the 2001 Holiday season.
A "L'eggs to Stand On" tip sheet that provides motivating ways to approach volunteerism, and a list of organizations will be available by calling 1-800-92-LEGGS (800-925-3447) and on the company's web site, http://www.leggs.com.
