Ruthee Goldkorn, an advocate for people with disabilities, represented California in the Ms. Wheelchair America pageant held last week in Denver. The pageant was won by Miss Colorado Candy Marsh.

Personal accomplishments, community involvement and advocacy for peers with disabilities weigh heavily in the judging. The judges also look for women who are self-confident and have adjusted to their disabilities.

Goldkorn, who has multiple sclerosis, won the Ms. Wheelchair California title in June. She ran for the 65th District State Assembly in the primary twice. Goldkorn owns No Barriers, a private consulting business that helps small businesses comply with ADA codes. Her advocacy work is recognized throughout the Inland area.

"She's a lady who has made a difference," said John Lonberg, an access consultant for the California Department of Rehabilitation

Goldkorn lives in Moreno Valley with her husband, Peter, and 14-year-old daughter, Sasha.
