Lake Superior College's Physical Therapy Clinic will open for the school year September 5.

The clinic provides physical therapy services to Duluth-area residents who are not covered by health insurance.

There is a $10 fee per treatment session assessed on a sliding fee scale.

Therapy is provided by physical therapist students from the College of St. Scholastica and physical therapist assistant students from LSC. All treatments are supervised by licensed physical therapists.

During the 2000-01 school year, about 60 students from LSC and St. Scholastica worked in the program, treating more than 100 people.

Therapy services include range-of-motion and strengthening exercises, ambulation training, heat and cold modalities, electrical stimulation, massage and treatment for neurologic injury or disease. Examples of conditions treated include low back pain, ankle sprains, joint injuries, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis and traumatic brain injury.
