Weston-super-mare's Liberal Democrat MP, Brian Cotter, is due to attend a meeting of the resort's Multiple Sclerosis Club at Weston General Hospital tomorrow.

He will join other volunteers for three hours to help members and provide them with refreshments.

The visit was arranged by the North Somerset Volunteer Agency after Mr Cotter pledged to do some volunteer work. Mr Cotter said: "It will give me an opportunity to meet everyone and promote support in any way I can for the Multiple Sclerosis Society in Weston and their need for a specialist MS nurse."

There are about 300 MS sufferers in Weston and the resort's branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society wants to a specialist nurse for the town.

Elsewhere, a social club for people with learning difficulties which meets on the second and fourth Friday afternoon of the month at Clarence Park Baptist Church, Walliscote Road, Weston-super-Mare has received a £650 boost.

The money, which will be used to buy equipment and fund outings, has come from the resort's Single Regeneration Budget Community Chest fund.
