Writer opens MS centre


JK Rowling, the multi-millionairess author of the Harry Potter fantasy novels, yesterday pledged to use her influence to raise the profile of multiple sclerosis, Scotlandís "forgotten" disease which claimed the life of her mother at the age of 45.

Ms Rowling said she was determined to heighten public and government awareness of the needs of MS sufferers and their carers when she opened a new MS resource centre in Aberdeen in her first official engagement since becoming the Patron of the Multiple Sclerosis Society Scotland.
