Canefield and floodwater,
Trees and mountains,
Fences, cars, cattle,
Rushing by in a blur.
If you try to watch it all
You get dizzy.
Life, too
Slides by us
Largely unnoticed.
Routine.
Taken for granted.
Then, suddenly ~
Derailed!
Without warning.
And the shock
Of its suddenness
Masks the pain
Of its wounds.
And you can't believe
It's really happened.
But slowly the pain brings
Awareness.
And you realise you're trapped
And bleeding to death.
And no-one can help
But yourself.
