Apoptosis is the programmed cell death that occurs during normal growth and in the natural functioning of the body. Cells will commit suicide if they receive the appropriate signal or if they don't receive a signal to stay alive. Apoptosis is an intimate part of immune system activity and is also thought play a part in the damage done by multiple sclerosis.
