Steroids are naturally occurring hormones in the human body. There are a variety of steroids including glucocorticosteroids, mineralcorticosteroids, androgens and progestins. The glucocorticosteroids (cortisone and hydrocortisone) and synthetic versions of them (prednisone, prednisolone, methylprednisolone, etc.) are often prescribed to treat relapses in multiple sclerosis.
